Book Tour + Giveaway: Matchmaking Beyond the Veil by Mara Townsend

Matchmaking Beyond the Veil (Telltale Ghosts, #1)
by Mara Townsend
Self-published
Release Date: May 28, 2019
M/M Paranormal Romance, Bisexual Romance

Emery Belmont is a snarky realist who likes his life ordinary. Like any skeptic, he’s content using mundane explanations to write off signs of paranormal activity. That’s no longer an option when the spirit haunting his house wrecks his new kitchen, forcing Emery to face the supernatural truth. Desperate for a new handyman, he unknowingly hires his hot ex-rival from high school to fix it. Paxton Santos, Emery’s former lacrosse team captain, followed in his father’s footsteps to take over the family business. Annoyingly, Emery requires his talented hands more than he needs to keep Paxton out of his life. However, getting Paxton to leave after the repairs may prove difficult with the meddlesome ghost taking a shine to him, which Paxton seems to take in his grating, good-natured stride, remaining irritatingly unruffled by numerous weird occurrences.

Emery is bombarded by paranormal hijinks, keeping Paxton at arm’s length, and solving an inescapable mystery. There’s nothing Emery hates more than an unfinished puzzle. In his determination to solve this one, Emery reluctantly opens himself up to new possibilities all while trying to remain firmly rooted in life the way he prefers it—orderly, logically explainable, and, above all else, ghost-free.

Join Emery and Paxton as they face off with a spirit that has no limits to how far it will go to push them together, enduring locked doors, faulty plumbing, and sharing a bed. Together they are determined to navigate their way out of this mess using any means necessary to send the ghost packing. Will they make it out of the traps awaiting them before their pesky tormenter gets any other ideas to make things worse and further blur the line between them?

Matchmaking Beyond the Veil is a 100k slow burn MM romance tale of rivals to friends to lovers. Featuring a meddling ghost playing at matchmaker, forced proximity, bed sharing, ghost tours that totally aren’t dates, and tongue-in-cheek humor. This story ends on a HFN ending with a soft cliffhanger. Emery and Paxton’s story will continue in Telltale Ghosts Book 2. This book contains denial, two men experimenting with sex magic, fighting what the heart wants, and steamy explicit sexual scenes and colorful language intended for adults 18 and older.

Excerpt
Two movies later and Emery came slowly out of a doze after drifting off sometime in the middle. He dragged in a deep inhale, arms curling overhead to stretch. The lights were dimmer than when he went to sleep and he blinked drowsily. Paxton’s head was resting against his shoulder, nose turned into his neck. His steady, even breaths fell over Emery’s skin and crept into the loose collar of his v-neck shirt.

Even the volume on the tv was lower, though Emery didn’t remember turning it down. The clock on the mantel told him it was after eleven. Stretching again, a small sound escaped his throat and Emery got up. Paxton didn’t wake right away, slumping further against the sofa in sleep. When his cheek hit the cushion instead of Emery, he woke with a small startle.

Paxton made an incoherent, sleepy sound that pierced through to Emery’s heart. Rubbing his face with sluggish movements, Paxton peered up at him blearily.

“Time s’it?” Paxton slurred.

“Not too late. Nearly half past eleven. We fell asleep,” Emery said. “Let’s go up to bed.”

It didn’t escape Emery’s notice that Paxton could take that like he was inviting him to his own bed. Apparently it didn’t escape the ghost’s, either, because the lights dimmed dramatically, almost snuffing out. Emery blinked in the low lighting, eyes adjusting.

Paxton held out a hand. Emery supposed he wanted a boost off the sofa. It was such an innocuous, everyday moment that he accepted Paxton’s hand and hauled him to standing with a tug. Paxton nearly stumbled into him, catching his balance with a hand on Emery’s shoulder. Sleep softened him in a way that Emery found alluring.

He swallowed and licked his lips. “Bed, yeah?”

“Mhm,” Paxton agreed, heaving a big sigh. He swayed a little on his feet and mumbled, “Bed.”

Emery turned off the media center and the room plunged into darkness on its own. Emery could feel the chill descending on the room, indicating the ghost’s watchful presence. This time it didn’t make his heart stutter because Paxton was with him, half asleep on his feet.

“We’re going to bed. That’s what you want, right?” Emery asked the quiet room. The clock on the mantel ticked. Paxton muttered incoherent syllables under his breath and huffed. Emery was pretty sure he was sleepwalking. “I’ll take your silence as a yes.”

Length: 285 pages

It's a time for searching, and a time for finding, Pisces: keep casting your line and you will hook what you're looking for.

Zane has it all planned out: land the perfect Meet Cure, fall in love, and live happily ever after. Should be simple enough if he put his mind to it. A little creativity and some thinking outside of the box, and voila, he'd be married to the woman of his dreams.

It would be perfect.
And it would be before his visa ran out.

But why are his feelings running wild now that the pressure's on? Why is his picture-perfectpla turning into a muddled mess of morphed metaphors he can't make sense of anymore?

Just as well he's met an English professor to help. And even though their first meet is everything but cute, this down-to-earth teacher may just be the realist Zane needs to ground him and give him a shot at love after all.

Don't cast your line too wide, Pisces. Your perfect catch may already have bitten.

Pisces Hooks Taurus (Signs of Love #4) is an MM opposites-attract romantic comedy featuring an unapologetic romantic and a broken realist.

Excerpt:

When they finished eating, Zane and Beckett entered a kitchen littered with a weekend’s worth of dishes. The room smelled like spoiled banana. Beckett grumbled Leah’s name, and Zane turned on the water.
Leah would have left this until tomorrow? “I’ll wash, you dry?”
Beckett first took out the trash and opened the windows. Fresh air cleansed the room as they worked.
Zane daydreamed about the story he was outlining and startled when Beckett cried, “What are you doing?”
Zane looked into the sink. “Scrubbing this clean?”
“With a wire scrubbing brush? That’s a very expensive nonstick pan.”
He frowned. “And I want to clean it.”
“Good Lord. Have you never washed dishes before?”
“I am literally doing what I’ve done every other night since moving in with you.”
Beckett paled. “You’ve scrubbed this pan with that before?”
“What do you expect me to do? Lick it clean?”
“Use a washcloth.”
“Do you know how disgusting those are? Like, two hundred thousand times dirtier than the toilet seat.”
Beckett paused, tone shifting. “Which is why you only use it for the dining table?”
“Exactly.”
“Please use the dishcloth on my pan.”
Zane dropped the metal scrubbing brush and thumped around passive-aggressively as he found a clean dishcloth.
Beckett nodded. “Thank you.”
That little thank-you grated Zane the wrong way. He sullenly scrubbed the pan and put it on the drying rack. He plunked the next pot into the water, splashing bubbles onto his face, neck, and shirt.
He sighed. Served him right.
Beckett set down the plate he’d dried and turned Zane around. With his dishtowel, he dabbed the bubbles off Zane’s chin and neck.
Their eyes locked, and Zane felt the frustration bleed from him. “You missed a spot,” he said, and shifted Beckett’s hands to Zane’s shirt.
Beckett shook his head and dabbed him some more.
“Our first fight.”
Beckett’s hands stilled.
“It’s a milestone, Becky. We have to celebrate.”
“Celebrate fighting?”
“Celebrate making up.”
“Will this be a thing every time we’re annoyed with each other?”
Zane smirked. “I hope so. I’m sure some fights will take longer to get over, but that’s cool. The celebration is always in proportion to the effort needed to make up.”
Beckett resumed drying the dishes. “Two hundred thousand times dirtier?”
Zane nodded. Disgusting but true.
Beckett frowned. “Maybe just use your hand?”
“I don’t know,” Zane teased. “The things my hand does might make the pan dirtier.”
Beckett dropped his very nice, expensive pan. He caught it against his thighs and stowed it in the cupboard.
The ticklish glare Beckett sent him made the rest of the cleaning fly by.
When they were done, Zane threw himself on the armchair. “Now we celebrate.”
Beckett tossed the dish towel into the laundry room. “How?”
“After you start that laundry, I’ll let you talk about books, Becky.”
Beckett’s laughter trickled down the hall. A few minutes later, he returned with Pride and Prejudice. He cracked open the first page, and pacing before him, all grace and proper pronunciation, Beckett read aloud.

I reviewed an ARC of Imperial Stout earlier today, and here you can check out what I had to say about it!

Excerpt:
Nic was silent a long minute, the building tension heavy in the small space. “This is why you’re not supposed to get involved with colleagues.”
Finally, an opening. Cam closed the distance between them, winding his arms around Nic and hugging him from behind. Body warm, despite the cool night, Cam wanted to get even closer to it. They might both get burned, but he was done watching the fire from a distance, holding himself back from the heat.
“Technically, we’re not,” he said.
“You have an answer for everything, don’t you?”
“If it wins the argument with you, yes.”
Nic chuckled, hanging his head, and Cam skirted his nose and lips along the nape of his neck. Nic’s quiet laughter died on a breathy gasp.

They brought the old air mattress out that evening and took turns trying to blow it up on the back deck. Crickets chirped as the musky twilight settled around them. This year, this final summer, was different—one last season at home in Leon as a kid. In a few weeks, he’d leave this behind forever.

Teaser:

“We can’t have coffee. We have to leave. Now.”
“What do you mean, we can’t have coffee?” Lloyd sounded incredulous, as though Wesley had casually suggested castration as an alternative to daily washing.
Wesley tugged Lloyd out of the line they’d been waiting in for ten minutes. “I’m the one up at nine in the morning with a grumpy RA. If anyone needs coffee, it’s me.” He glanced across the room at a top-button-collared man weaving his way in their direction. “But it has to wait.”
“Wesley? Right now? I legitimately fear for your life.”
“I’ll get us coffee later. More than one. My treat.”
Lloyd gave up resisting, and they almost escaped the bustling café.
“Young Mister Hidaka!”
Wesley swallowed a groan and clutched Lloyd’s forearm as he turned them around to face his childhood pastor. Pastor Geoff had a gray beard, rim-free glasses, and a condescending regard—like usual.
“Your mother prays every week that you come back home.” Pastor Geoff registered Lloyd’s presence, and his face shadowed. “You’ve lost your way, son.”
That was about as much as Wesley would put up with. “I am very sure of my way, and I’ll keep walking it. In fact, I’m going to walk it right now. Vigorously. With my fiancé.”
Wesley steered Lloyd out the door, leaving the pastor gaping behind them. He didn’t stop walking or let go until they were safely ducking down behind Lloyd’s car. Well, Wesley was ducking down. Lloyd was staring at him with disbelief and amusement—and something else.
“Has he stopped watching us yet?” Wesley asked, noticing how close his face was to Lloyd’s crotch. Lloyd jerked and bumped against the car door.
Wesley took a moment to absorb Lloyd’s reaction, and a smile quivered at his lips. He straightened, keeping barely an inch between them.
Lloyd caught his elbow and helped him along, muttering under his breath. “I really need coffee.”
“Is that what they’re calling it these days?”
Lloyd closed his eyes and took a calming breath, then opened the passenger door. “Get in, flirtster.”
Wesley smirked, and jumped in.

Book Tour + Giveaway: Yuletide Truce by Sandra Schwab

Yuletide Truce
by Sandra Schwab
Release day: 22nd September 2017
Historical romance, Victorian romance, M/M romance, holiday romance

London, 1845
It's December, Alan "Aigee" Garmond's favorite time of the year, when the window display of the small bookshop where he works fills up with crimson Christmas books and sprays of holly. Everything could be perfect — if it weren't for handsome Christopher Foreman, the brilliant writer for the fashionable magazine About Town, who has taken an inexplicable and public dislike to Aigee's book reviews.
But why would a man such as Foreman choose to target reviews published in a small bookshop's magazine? Aigee is determined to find out. And not, he tells himself, just because he finds Foreman so intriguing.

Aigee’s quest leads him from smoke-filled ale-houses into the dark, dingy alleys of one of London's most notorious rookeries. And then, finally, to Foreman. Will Aigee be able to wrangle a Yuletide truce from his nemesis?

Get a copy here;

Quotes from Sandra Schwab about the book;
Yuletide Truce is a feel-good enemies-to-lovers holiday romance that takes you on a sweeping journey to Victorian London, to fog-filled streets and smoke-filled taverns, to Fleet Street, where news are made, and to Bethnal Green, where once a crime lord ruled as supreme master. Meet those who criticized a rich ruling class that clung to its old privileges, and those who eked out a meagre livelihood on the streets of the metropolis. Yuletide Truce not a story about rich people, but a story about two ordinary men — because everybody deserves a happily-ever-after, and I want to challenge the idea that it's somehow only straight, white, rich people whose stories deserve to be told.

Excerpt:
Now Mrs. Woodall’s smile diminished as her gaze fell on the magazine Aigee was holding. “Oh dear. About Town? I take it the ‘Adonis of Fleet Street’ has struck again.”

At the mentioning of Foreman’s nickname among the London publishing world, a rush of heat washed through Aigee. Lord, as if the whole situation wasn’t already embarrassing enough! No, to make matters worse, Aigee’s body—well, his prick, he supposed—had also decided to take a fancy to the very man who delighted in publicly bashing him.

It was ridiculous!

Beyond embarrassing.

And yet…

Well, Foreman was attractive, otherwise he wouldn’t have gained that particular epithet. He was tall, with a lean, trim body, violet-blue eyes, ridiculously long lashes, and a head of golden hair that tended to curl if he let it grow too long.

Handsome like the devil himself.

No, not the devil. Some kind of arrogant angel, tumbled to earth, probably thrown out of the heavenly choir because he had spouted some profanity at a horrified archangel.

Author Bio
Award-winning author Sandra Schwab started writing her first novel when she was seven years old. Thirty-odd years later, telling stories is still her greatest passion, even though by now, she has exchanged her pink fountain pen of old for a black computer keyboard. Since the release of her debut novel in 2005, she has enchanted readers worldwide with her unusual historical romances (some of which she now uses to shamelessly fangirl over Punch, her favorite Victorian magazine).

She holds a PhD in English literature, and in autumn 2015, she appeared on the BBC documentary Great Continental Railway Journeys to talk about another favorite topic of hers, the Grimms’ fairy tales (while walking through a rather muddy stretch of the Black Forest) (there were a lot of slugs, too).

She lives in Frankfurt am Main / Germany with a sketchbook, a sewing machine, and an ever-expanding library.

Excerpt
Will shook his head in frustration, his irritation clear. I could work with irritation. One strong emotion would do just as well as another. “Don’t act like we’re close. Like you know me. Like you know what things I like and who I am. Because you don’t.”

“But I’d like to. I’d like to know who you are inside and out. I wanted to see you again.”
I’d banked on the same spark that had flared to life in my study after Val’s wedding reigniting, if I could just get William close to me again.

I let go of the check then and it fluttered to the floor at our feet. Will glared at me, eyes wide, cheeks flushing. He stooped and snatched the check up, slapping it down on the desk and whirling back around to face me.

“You think that you can do anything, get away with anything, because you’re rich and privileged and handsome,” he spat out, though his lip twitched at “handsome,” suggesting he hadn’t meant to include it in his list of offenses. “But it doesn’t work that way. Eventually, things catch up with you. Eventually, you make a mistake and give the game away. Eventually, you get caught. And I’m going to be there when you do.”

He’d closed the distance between us and I could smell him: inexpensive aftershave and soap, and a hint of stale, after-work sweat clinging to his clothes. It was the smell I imagined was associated with the first kiss after a lover walked in the door. The kiss that said, I’m so happy to be done with work and home, here, with you. The kiss that said, I’ll go change and then we can start our evening together. The kisses I’d thought about enough that they felt real, but never actually had.

“You’re here now,” I murmured, mostly to myself. I’d lost the thread of the conversation a bit, distracted by thinking about William coming home to…me. I wasn’t sure where the thought had come from. I wasn’t the coming-home-to type, or so I’d been told by enough lovers I assumed they must be onto something.

But William’s eyes were narrowed and his color was high and his breath was audible. Either he was about to hit me, or—

The kiss hit me like a fist, and I had to grab him around the shoulders to keep from pitching backward under the onslaught. I allowed myself the briefest moment of victory that my plan had worked, and then I sank into the kiss. His mouth had the slightly sharp bite of coffee, but that gave way almost immediately to the warm caramel taste that was Will’s alone. It was sugar and heat and richly turning leaves and I opened my mouth, desperate for more of it.

Roan Parrish lives in Philadelphia where she is gradually attempting to write love stories in every genre.
When not writing, she can usually be found cutting her friends’ hair, meandering through whatever city she’s in while listening to torch songs and melodic death metal, or cooking overly elaborate meals. She loves bonfires, winter beaches, minor chord harmonies, and self-tattooing. One time she may or may not have baked a six-layer chocolate cake and then thrown it out the window in a fit of pique.

Avon Gale wrote her first story at the age of seven, about a “Space Hat” hanging on a rack and waiting for that special person to come along and purchase it — even if it was a bit weirder than the other, more normal hats. Like all of Avon’s characters, the space hat did get its happily ever after — though she’s pretty sure it was with a unicorn. She likes to think her vocabulary has improved since then, but the theme of quirky people waiting for their perfect match is still one of her favorites.
Avon grew up in the southern United States, and now lives with her very patient husband in a liberal midwestern college town. When she’s not writing, she’s either doing some kind of craft project that makes a huge mess, reading, watching horror movies, listening to music or yelling at her favorite hockey team to get it together, already. Avon is always up for a road trip, adores Kentucky bourbon, thinks nothing is as stress relieving as a good rock concert and will never say no to candy.
At one point, Avon was the mayor of both Jazzercise and Lollicup on Foursquare. This tells you basically all you need to know about her as a person.

Book Tour: Abroad by Liz Jacobs

Abroad (Abroad duology, #1)
by Liz Jabobs
Published by Brain Mill Press
Released June 27, 2017
New Adult, LGBT

Nick Melnikov doesn’t know where he belongs. He was just a kid when his Russian-Jewish family immigrated to Michigan. Now he’s in London for university, overwhelmed by unexpected memories. Socially anxious, intensely private, and closeted, Nick doesn’t expect to fall in so quickly with a tight-knit group of students from his college, and it’s both exhilarating and scary. Hanging out with them is a roller coaster of serious awkward and incredible longing, especially when the most intimidating of the group, Dex, looks his way.
Dex Cartwell knows exactly who he is: a black queer guy who doesn’t give a toss what anybody thinks of him. He is absolutely, one-hundred-percent, totally in control of his life. Apart, maybe, from the stress of his family’s abrupt move to an affluent, largely white town. And worrying about his younger brother feeling increasingly isolated as a result. And the persistent broken heart he’s been nursing for a while . . .
When Nick and Dex meet, both find themselves intrigued. Countless late-night conversations only sharpen their attraction. But the last thing Nick wants is to face his deepest secret, and the last thing Dex needs is another heartache. Dex has had to fight too hard for his right to be where he is. Nick isn’t even sure where he’s from. So how can either of them tell where this is going?

Excerpt
Nick didn't feel better in the morning. At three am, his anxiety had been a shapeless thing, with weight and texture but part of dreams, too. A sort of terrifying unreality he had to breathe through.
At eight am, as his alarm shrieked at him to wake the fuck up, the shapeless, textured thing coalesced into something more terrifying than the nightly ghosts. If, at ten years old, he'd been aware that being unable to answer the kids on the bus who asked him why his teeth looked the way they did would someday end, at twenty, he knew better.
He wanted men. He hadn't really wanted Lena, in all the years they'd been together. He hadn't really wanted Ashley during sophomore year when they'd kissed in the art classroom, her hair tickling his palms where his hands had trembled on her shoulders, and later humped fruitlessly in her sunroom, sweaty and shaky and half-hard.
He wanted Dex. Of all people, of all the people he had met, he wanted him so much, his hands ached with it. Nick was past denying anything. All he knew now was the whine in his chest that told him truth frightened more than denial.

Spoiler Alert! The following blurb contains spoilers for Insight, book one of The Community.
Holden Payne has it all . . . or so he thinks. As heir to the founder of the Community—an organization that finds, protects, and manages psychics—he’s rich, powerful, and treated like royalty. But after a series of disappearances and murders rock the Community, he’s branded the fall guy for the scandal and saddled with a babysitter.
Sixtus Rossi is a broad-shouldered, tattooed lumbersexual with a man-bun and a steely gaze. He’s also an Invulnerable—supposedly impervious to both psychic abilities and Holden’s charms. It’s a claim Holden takes as a challenge. Especially if sleeping with Six may help him learn whether the Community had more to do with the disappearances than they claimed.
As Holden uncovers the truth, he also finds himself getting in deep with the man sent to watch him. His plan to seduce Six for information leads to a connection so intense that some of Six’s shields come crashing down. And with that comes a frightening realization: Holden has to either stand by the Community that has given him everything, or abandon his old life to protect the people he loves.

"Six just stared at him. This beautiful personification of blankness but with burning black eyes."

Excerpt
The man who walked into the office did not remotely resemble the teen boy who'd just strolled through his memories. Adult Sixtus was Holden’s height but corded with about thirty more pounds of muscle. His biceps were nearly bursting from the sleeves and his pecs were clearly visible beneath the tight black polo he wore, making the typically conservative style— look like the prequel to a stripping routine in Magic Mike. He also wore khaki pants so tight his thighs looked like they were being strangled. He'd paired the two articles of clothing with scuffed motorcycle boots with steel toes.

Holden didn't make an attempt to hide his slow ogle, and dragged his eyes from boot to crotch to clavicle before taking in Six's face. His fathomless black eyes were the only familiar feature in that olive complexed face. He had a full beard and mustache, thick black hair tied up in a bun, and wide lips that Holden wanted to suck on. Why did his sociopathic handler have to be a disgustingly sexy lumberjack hipster?

"Huh," Holden said. "He's filled out."

Richard went back to pursing his lips but Sixtus didn't even blink. He didn't scan Holden or react to the intense eyefuck he'd just received. There seemed to be nothing behind those dark eyes. The effect was more disturbing when Holden, by default, reached out with his gift to get an impression. He'd expected a hint of impatience or irritation even if it was muted by the mental shield that was apparently always in place.

"He was drawn in by the strength of Six, and when that bubble wrapped around him again, it felt almost safe enough for him to break."

Author bio
Santino Hassell was raised by a conservative family, but he was anything but traditional. He grew up to be a smart-mouthed, school cutting grunge kid, then a transient twenty-something, and eventually transformed into an unlikely romance author.

Santino writes queer romance that is heavily influenced by the gritty, urban landscape of New York City, his belief that human relationships are complex and flawed, and his own life experiences.
